Sarah is Tetsu’s oldest friend. She was the one that often helped him in his past to dress as a girl. Despite her knowing Tetsu’s feelings for her brothers friend and bandmate Kyle, she still holds a bit of a thing in her heart for her childhood friend. But once Mai appears she begins to bury those feelings and strictly watches out and be the support Tetsu needs when he is really down.

She is generally smart but tends to tune out of things when she is bored, causing her grades to be moderate for art and science where patience and practice are needed. She however tries to be more focused on her studies than her older brother. Influenced and looking up to Tetsu’s mother. Sarah looks to get into business school after college.

Creator’s Notes:

Sarah has always been a character in mind as Tetsu’s best friend. But it wasn’t till the current run of the comic that I decided to really give her a backstory and personality. She is a very open and outspoken person in her life. She is proud to say what she likes and wants out of life. When making her I wanted Tetsu to come into the story already having a strong female bond made. So when someone like Mai comes into his life he isn’t closed in individual type. Sarah helps by being a force to push Tetsu along his goals along with her own. For a while, I struggled at making Sarah a lesbian. Mainly due to I didn’t want to make the comic greatly focus on LGBT issues. Outside of a few stories with Tetsu facing his own closeted life. But as I worked I saw that Sarah’s personality would have her be out and proud of it. In later issues, I will hint at Sarah taking Tetsu to the school’s LGBT support group in the past.

When I wrote Kyle living with Sarah and Hugh at their home and with him being around Sarah all the time. I figured the ever-present lady killer and her likely had the worst of connections thus Sarah is often very critical of Kyle and of Tetsu’s feelings for Kyle. But as a good friend, she is more than willing to help the two of them get together.

Art wise Sarah is always a challenge to get her hair to look right. I wanted from early on to give her a unique look in her hairstyle. Thus I went with a short bob of dreads. While there is another character I have planned for later in the series to also have dreads. I feel it fits Sarah for her freewill nature.
